Erasmus Student Card gains popularity among students across Europe.

Have you ever heard of European Student Card? It is a digital extension of a student’s existing ID, designed to provide a common and verifiable student identity across Europe. It simplifies administrative procedures and enables easier access to university services, public transport, accommodation, and cultural discounts while studying abroad.

Nearly 5,500 students and higher education staff from 33 Erasmus+ countries took part in the 2025 ESC survey, confirming growing interest in the initiative. Although only 36% of respondents were familiar with the card, demand was remarkably high: 85% of students would like to receive one, and 73% of university staff support its implementation. Studentservice providers showed the strongest approval, with 96% in favor.

The results also highlight a clear shift toward digital solutions. Over half of higher education institutions already issue digital student cards, and users of the ESC rate it positively, especially for simplifying procedures during international mobility.

Overall, the survey shows that the European Student Card has strong potential to become a standard tool supporting student life and mobility across Europe.
